Don’t Worry, Be Lazy

From delivery of goods to getting your personalised item, from sending a cake to your loved one residing overseas or even catching roaches!!! We speak to the team at Bemalas and found how they work their magic.

There’s only so much one can do at a time, be it if you’re a stay at home mother or a jet-setting businessman. Everyone only has 24 hours a day but what’s important is planning, planning and planning – the age old and boring mantra. Although well planned, there will be hurdles to cross over that will inevitably leads to delay, being late and Murphy’s Law. Then, you worry….until I came across this site that can help us with all the chores in the world that you can think of – Bemalas.  They’re like a genie granting wishes, you can request as many demands as you like.

The team is designed to bring the extraordinary requests to life. When we had a chat with them, we heard all the weird and funny things people had asked of them to do. To me, the weirdest thing ever is, try imagining this: you see these dresses you like on the website of Mango but you do not have time to go to the store. Clothes are on 50% sale until tomorrow only. Only issue is, you want to have them tried on first. Here’s the clincher, you contact Bemalas, ask them to get someone with the same size as you, try the chosen dress on then buy them. If that’s not enough, they’ll also deliver to you! Super exquisite if you ask me.

Other bizarre things they had to do include sitting in for a compulsory meeting, delivering an RM80,000 limited edition robot all the way from Japan and even providing airport transfer. As long as it does not breach any law within Malaysia, they will just Bemalas with it.

Stop Being Lazy

The whole concept arose as the three founders were having a chat around a kitchen table. With a lot of research thereafter and sleepless nights to follow, the next thing they knew, they were handling requests as ‘runners’ themselves.

It all started with three colleagues who wanted more for society, Adlin Yusman, Chief Executive Officer, Puvanendren Maniam, Chief Operating Officer and Suthenesh Sugumaran, Chief Marketing Officer, all three of whom were once incubated at Groupon Malaysia. The kitchen table chat led to an idea to venture out and cater to the needs of the community – assistance. Today, in less than a year of operations, they’re serving over 150,000 users and more than 20,000 requests a day.

Pretty sure, you’re asking how they came up with the name. Well, legend has it that at first, it was supposed to be ‘Gosihir’ when they decided that it wouldn’t be suitable if the name was heard elsewhere other than Malaysia. Thus, came Bemalas. No one’s complaining anyway and the name definitely sticks at the back of your mind.

To sample the service created for the lazy a** like you and me, here’s what you have to do:
