Memovox Memories

Jaeger-LeCoultre’s earliest automatic alarm watch celebrates its 60th birthday with a new edition.

The Master Memovox – the Grande Maison’s iconic alarm watch – is celebrating the 60th anniversary of its automatic movement this year. To mark the occasion, an exclusive edition entitled The Master Memovox Boutique Edition will be available in – you guessed it – Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Boutiques around the world starting this month.

The mechanics of the Memovox have been impressing both aficionados and collectors of Jaeger-LeCoultre watches since the 1950s, with its double crown, mobile disc and triangular alarm time indicator. Albeit the Boutique Edition having a different movement compared to the original’s Calibre 815 (which was the first automatic movement with an alarm function signed by the Grande Maison), the Calibre 956 of the Boutique Edition is a direct descendent of the pioneer.

Design-wise, the new Memovox is inspired by its elder cousin from the 70s, the Memovox Snowdrop. Retaining the latter’s general characteristics, including baton hands with a luminescent coating around a white “railtrack” minute circle, the little triangle that functions as the mark of the alarm function and the crowning touch of the Jaeger-LeCoultre logo acting as the twelfth hour marker. The entire artwork of markers is then presented on a blue dial, a colour significant to the Memovox collection throughout history.

The focal charm of the timepiece, beyond its inspired design and immaculate movement is of course the alarm function. Set it for any occasion, be it for meeting time or simply to wake up in the mornings and experience the true luxury of a wristwatch alarm. This eminently audible mechanical memory was invented in the 1950s, and yet still retains its ingenuity today, marching to its own tune in a digitally consumed world.

The material selected for the strap is a deep blue braided cotton known as ‘trieste’, with a contemporary light blue stitching, while supple calfskin lining ensures a comfortable and flexible fit. Limited to only 500 pieces, each one goes through a 1000-hour rigorous test to ensure optimum functionality and reliability.

The Master Memovox Boutique Edition is exclusively available at Jaeger-LeCoultre Boutique, Starhill Gallery, G-36 Indulge Floor, 181 Jalan Bukit Bintang, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur.
