7 Acres of Wine, Dine & Party

Exploring the ever-expanding TREC.

If you’re even a little interested in Kuala Lumpur, chances are you would have come across the acronym TREC, which stands for Tun Razak Entertainment Centre. Built on a 7-acre site along Jalan Tun Razak, the entity is Malaysia’s first purpose-built urban F&B, lifestyle and commercial destination, where row after row of restaurants, bistros, bars and clubs await patrons of different walks of life. In addition to the main anchor Zouk, the other establishments in the vicinity offer different experiences each, allowing us to really mean it when we say there truly is a place for everyone at TREC. Here, #UPPRErecommends four venues for you to check out in the newly opened parts of The Terraces, The Hive and The Alcove.

Wine Connection

Boasting over 18 years of experience in the wine industry of Southeast Asia, Wine Connection is a major player in wine retail markets of Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia, with 75 outlets altogether in the three countries. Currently there are four Wine Connection outlets in Malaysia, one being in TREC.

The go-to place for aficionados and pedestrians alike, the biggest outlet in KL hosts over 200 hand-picked labels of wines from all over the world. Drop by to buy a bottle or open one with your friends and hang out at the tables strategically laid out at the patio. If there is one thing wine is good for, that’s to keep conversations going. The TREC arm is also looking to open an F&B outlet right by the store real soon!

Retro Tapas Bar Café

Spread out alfresco, Retro Tapas Bar Café sits comfortably by the road, its façade seducing patrons with its old-charm, from the neon signage to the wooden tables that are perfect for people-watching. However, don’t let its appearance or the name Retro fool you when it comes to the food – for there is nothing old-school about this joint’s menu. Boasting over 200 F&B items to choose from, the ‘tapas-taurant’ thrives on a range of edgy, fusion dishes where East and West collide – think Western/European fares with an Asian kick, either on the spicy spectrum or little sour pinches.

Best way to enjoy yourself at Retro Tapas Bar & Café? Drop by after a night of decadence with your friends (or family) and order a wide variety of tapas for sharing as you chat away.

DZH Seafood Saunaboat 大中華蒸汽火锅

Comprising two floors of seafood goodness, DZH welcomes patrons with the smell of the sea and the sight of fishes and other sea creatures that can be ordered inside exhibited in clear tanks. The main attractions of the seafood joint have to be the futuristic way the fresh food is served and the MSG-free cooking. Apart from the various seafood dishes, the venue also serves delicious dim sum. Walk-ins are just as welcome as making reservations.

Ipong

Not your run-of-the-mill sports bar, Ipong specialises in the American drinking game of ‘beer pong.’ Even then it’s not in the traditional sense – the party game has been digitised, with the use of an electronic table that keeps the score for you. Definitely a must-try experience if ever you’re in the vicinity!
