Scoring Goals With La Martina

La Martina promotes good sportsmanship and striking polo sport attire in this year’s MOP tournament.

Staying true to its roots, La Martina continues to show its fidelity to the sport of polo by partnering with the prestigious Malaysian Open Polo (MOP) for the third time during the 2017 cup tournament.

The Argentine brand took charge as the official polo equipment and apparel supplier for the tournament. Held from 4 to 16 July, the tournament took place at the Royal Selangor Polo Club, Kuala Lumpur.

Four teams competed in the tournament, and all of four sported custom designed jerseys – navy blue and white for Putra Polo Club, black and orange for Jogo Polo, white and navy blue for La Familia, and grey and black for Ranhill Putrajaya.

In the finals, the game started with a winning goal by Putra Polo Club captain Datuk Seri Norza Zakaria. The scores were evened out in the end of the first chukka with a 2-2 by Argentine pro-players Miguel Diaz (playing for Putra Polo Club) and Tomas Gandara (playing for Jogo Polo). Both Argentine players also scored goals in the second and third chukkas with scores of 4-4 and 6-6.

In the fourth chukka, Jogo Polo pulled ahead with three goals, two by Gandara and one by local pro-player Mohd Irwan. The game ended with Jogo Polo claiming victory with a score of 6-9, followed by Putra Polo Club securing second place, while La Familia came in third after beating Ranhill Putrajaya 8-4.

It was a triumphant day for Jogo Polo team captain, Khairy Jamaluddin, who is also the Minister for Youth and Sport, as he finally obtained the elusive MOP Cup after a decade of participating in the tournament that he started together with ex-national equestrian rider Datuk Quizer Ambak.

Throughout the cup tournament, La Martina also sponsored jerseys for three lower division teams and polo equipment bags for the winners.
