The Roast Things’ foray into café with Cream is meant to be.
When it comes to cookie cutter cafés, most of them have a template – a rustic ambience with exposed brick walls, quirky furniture and a unique name. Now, although Cream by The Roast Things completes the latter two norms, this café is different; it started as a roastery before naturally culminating in a café.
An endeavour by micro roastery The Roast Things, Cream was started by Chiam Tow Jin and his partner Ving Lim. After launching to roast coffee professionally in 2014, the duo opened Cream in the end of 2014 in Dataran Prima with minimal fixture but maximum lighting.
Their partnership is the perfect symbiosis – Chiam is a possesses a Q-grade qualification, which means he is fit to be a coffee judge, while his partner used to be a proprietor of a cafe and has also been roasting coffee for a long time. Together, apart from serving customers in their cafe daily, the twosome also deliver roast coffee for many restaurants in addition to selling their own retail packs.
Loyal fans of tea would not be disappointed either—the cafe also serves good quality tea curated by the founders.
The airy, light-filled space that is Cream is located in the same building where The Roast Things started out. Currently, the cafe-cum-roastery also serves as a potential event and workshop space. Although the cafe’s main focus is coffee – something the partners do best – cakes and sandwiches can be found here too.
Thanks to the opening of the cafe, customers can now drive up to the location, enjoy a cuppa, and drive away with their fresh beans – which is a far cry from The Roast Things’ costly delivery days.
Cream is best enjoyed after a visit to Patty & Pie, the haven of burgers and pizza.
