Desserts at their best — made affordable at Foo Foo Fine Desserts.
When the craving for the sweets comes a-knockin’, nothing is as divine as the sweet satisfaction of a fancy dessert to make things all better. The only drawback is that — most of the time — it can be expensive and before you know it, you’d be spending every penny you have. But don’t fret yet as we discovered a place that wouldn’t make you go broke over that cake.
Away from the hustle and bustle of Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), Foo Foo Fine Desserts is probably the best option when your sweet tooth acts up. Located along Jalan Burhanuddin Helmi, this ‘hidden’ haven is a top spot for those looking for a place to spend some quality time — be it a quick catching up sessions with friends or candlelit dinner with your date. The place is easily missed as it is quietly nestled on the first floor of shophouses — the same row as the Frisky Goat cafe and the Meat Point.
The fine desserts parlour is the brainchild of a pastry chef, Mr. Foo Foo who is an alumnus of Le Cordon Bleu Sydney and his partner, Jack who has a background in architecture. Foo Foo who has been working with desserts from as early as at the age of 14, cherishes desserts that have histories. To make it more interesting, he put in the effort in finding ways to give his desserts a modern twist. Foo Foo, along with his partner, teamed up to create a cafe that would represent their own interpretation of fine dining desserts that comes with an exquisite, unforgettable experience.
There are many entries on the menu but two of them caught our eye for their ingenuity and decadence.
Apple Strudel with Black Pepper Mango Ice Cream
This comforting confectionery has its root in the 17th century. Often mistaken as being of German origin, apple strudel is one of the national dishes of Austria.
Foo Foo’s modern twist of the apple strudel is served with black pepper mango ice cream. The spherical shape of the apple strudel is also Foo Foo’s innovative creation as opposed to the traditional flattened rectangular shape. The combination of these two would give you a perfect yet surprising bite — thanks to the black pepper.
Tahini Chocolate Mousse with Honeycomb & Peanut Tuiles
If chocolate is your Achilles heel, then this is a must-try. This tasty treat is definitely an interesting combination of flavours — boasting layers of Belgian chocolate infused with Tahini sesame seeds mousse, topped with honeycomb and crunchy peanut shards. The texture of the mousse is light — enough to make you forget how sinfully rich this dessert actually is!
At Foo Foo, one is promised to be swayed and serenaded with the decadent delicacies of fine-dining in a great, homey ambiance. Truly an experience not to be missed!
