For the folks looking for an exclusive Italian dining experience, this week is your week. For the rest of this week, from 11 to 14 January 2017, Mandarin Grill at Mandarin Oriental has Michelin Star Chef Mario Cittadini of Il Postale, Italy as guest chef, bringing with him an assortment of Italian gourmet delicacies.

Raised in Tuscany, Italy, Cittadini has 16 years of culinary experience under his belt. Through his stints in fine dining restaurants across the globe, he has gained a talent of melding Italian traditions and flavours with modern cooking styles, which gives the same ingredient a new twist.
In the kitchen, I only have one rule: respect the ingredient. Technique is important, but passion fruit has to be passion fruit.
Of the many dishes on offer, perhaps the ones that you definitely shouldn’t miss are the tortelli (a decadent tablespoon of parmesan emulsion with black truffle caviar) and the pannacotta, Cittadini’s signature.

During a casual conversation with Cittadino, he mentions his methodology: no exact measurements. “Recipes never work! I used to write cookbooks and recipes – I never gave an exact measurement, because the ingredients can vary – passion fruit here will differ from passion fruit elsewhere.”

During this promotion period, gastronomists of Kuala Lumpur have the option of a 3-, 4- or 5-course menu for lunch, and 5- and 7-menu courses for dinner. A la carte dishes are also available. Lunch starts at RM148, while dinner starts from RM288. Of course, what good is a multi-course meal without some good wine recommendations to go along with it? For that, there’s Gabriele Rizzardi, head sommelier from Villa Caffagio Wines. He will be in residence to recommend fine wines for diners to complement their meals. So, what are you waiting for?
