For a no-frills, affordable burger and pizza experience.
If you’re a newbie to the name Patty & Pie, here’s a warning: don’t walk in to the outlet expecting lip-smacking pies. What awaits you, however, are equally good, mouth-watering selection of burgers and pizza, which respectively put the words ‘patty’ and ‘pie’ in the restaurant’s name.
Founded by husband and wife duo, British national Nadal Murray and Malaysian Shahreen Bux, Patty & Pie is what you get when restaurateurs put all their time, money and effort in serving patrons the best food possible. The intention is easily deducible from the décor, which is kept simple and industrial, with the walls either painted black or kept bare so that the brickwork is exposed.
The interior was a conscious decision on Nadal and Shahreen’s part when they had enough funding to open the restaurant in 2014. Former banker and doctor respectively, the couple nonetheless did not go into the F&B scene inexperienced—they had run a stall selling traditional Malay cuisine in Rasta @ TTDI for about a year in 2013.
Patty & Pie is a dream come true for co-founder Nadal Murray who had always wanted to come to Malaysia and open a restaurant. After knowing more about kitchen and operations from the short stint Rasta @ TTDI, the couple were ready for bigger things but didn’t want to dwell on Malay food. So, naturally the Brit turned to his two favourite dishes: burgers and pizza.
The decision was not made on whim, however. Through research on the local restaurant culture, the couple found that not many affordable local eateries were offering wood-fired oven dishes and decided to jump in to fill that gap.
Food-wise, everything on the menu is delicious and draws upon various aspects of Nadal’s and Shahreen’s backgrounds. Hailing from the United Kingdom, traditionalist Nadal keeps the recipes of the burger and pizza as authentic as possible, whilst drawing inspiration from his maternal Bahraini side for some special creations, such as the crowd-favourite Azzouzi pizza, a juicy mix of minced lamb, mozzarella, butter, almonds, onion, mint and more.
Fret not if you’re a vegetarian, the burgers at Patty & Pie come with the falafel patty option as well, while the Baked Camembert with Plain Pizza Slices make for the perfect sharing dish. So, the next time you’re in Aman Suria, drop by for a no-frills affordable burger and pizza experience.
